| Being a
Specialist is hard. In 2003, each Specialist had about 2 free periods a
week. That means that they had 33 periods that lasted about 40 minutes
wherein they had to teach campers about their specialty... while keeping
them entertained. And then when Monday rolled around, they had to do it all
again... with brand new material. Tough, huh? There are 7 periods in a day which a Specialist normally has to teach. They have an assigned area and a place to store their materials. Each Specialist also has a budget to buy new materials. A little more than 20 campers come each period, ranging in age (depending upon which tribe comes) from 4 to 14. This means that each activity has to be age appropriate for whichever group is coming. In other words, one Specialist could have to teach 2 or 3 different lessons in a day to cater to their audience. A Specialist has to be creative and willing... We had many different Specialty Areas in 2002 and are into any suggestions for new ones that one may be willing to teach! |
