Campers Parents Staff

2005 Pictures: [Session 1] [Session 2] [Session 3] [Session 4]

Counselors have one of the most difficult positions at camp. Every day they are in charge of 7 - 12 campers and are responsible for them from 9AM until 3:30PM. A counselor must be energetic, enthusiastic, reliable, and work well with kids - all the time being a role model by showing the YMCA values: Caring, Responsibility, Respect, and Honesty.

A counselor starts their day by taking attendance and seeing that the campers lunches and items go where they belong. Then they lead the campers to Specialty Areas for four periods in the morning and three periods in the afternoon. Even though Specialists are in charge of the Specialty Areas, these are not places to take a break. Counselors are expected to assist the Specialist in whatever way needed. At the end of the day, the counselors are held responsible for getting their campers to the buses, cars, or post-care.

This job is a great deal of work, but can be fun as well. Any staff members that show a great deal of spirit get to be included in skits and other privileges to show that they are doing a great job.
